The theme for MILAP 2018 was A Millennium Revisited: Tradition and Transformation.

The Literary Meet was inaugurated by Sahitya Akademi and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Atamjit Singh who delivered the Inaugural Address. Renowned Kannada playwright, Sahitya Akademi, and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee H S Shivaprakash delivered the keynote address.

Each day included a panel discussion with leading experts and practitioners of the literary craft. The panels explored the theme of the festival through their specific perspectives and contexts. The Kannada Panel through the lens of examining four celebrated authors of the language; while the North East Panel will speak of shifting identities and everyday realities of the region, and finally the International Panel with its focus on South Asia stressing on the geopolitical and cultural ramifications of the region on its literature.

Kannada Panel – Lit Meet – m.i.l.a.p 2018

In addition to the panel discussions, we had three performance-based sessions. Performing artists and scholars contextualized their respective art forms in the present, while also speaking about their evolution through the millennium. Performances will be interspersed will lively discussions and conversations. We focused on the performance traditions of Dastangoi, Tulu Folk Poems, and the journey of harmonium from margin to centre-stage.
